about

Edit Dec. 2020: For ease, I have decided to make this series of EP's 'pay what you want'. If you download the EP, please consider making a donation to the charity listed below. thank you!

This is the second of three EPs that I am releasing to raise funds and awareness in the ongoing struggle for environmental justice.

As we witness the continued colonial dispossession and exploitation of first nations' land - even in the face unprecedented climate change-fuelled catastrophes - I hope that this small action can help even in a minuscule way.

Over the past few weeks I have witnessed and been inspired by the beautiful outpouring of support from artists and the wider community - I genuinely believe that true hope lies in community, that is working class people working with first nations people to restore justice and balance. It is crystal clear that the billionaire class and their politicians will never act in the interest of the majority, or mother earth. No one is coming to save us but us.

The music on this second EP is a selection of unreleased tracks that were recorded to c41 cassette tape while I was living on Coast Salish Territory (colonial name Vancouver Island). They are demos and experiments that share a very similar genesis to the tracks on the Natural Sciences & X-Kalay EPs.

I feel a deep affinity to the land that this music was made on, and feel so grateful to have been able to spend time there. Therefore, all funds raised will be donated to Wet'suwet'en First Nation to aid in their resistance to violent colonial dispossession which is happening RIGHT NOW as I write this.

From the Wet'suwet'en First Nation facebook page, 5/1/2020:

"Unceded and sovereign Wet’suwet’en land is under attack.

On December 31, 2019, BC Supreme Court Justice Marguerite Church granted an injunction against members of the Wet’suwet’en nation who have been stewarding and protecting our traditional territories from the destruction of multiple pipelines, including Coastal GasLink’s (CGL) liquified natural gas (LNG) pipeline.

Hereditary Chiefs of all five Wet’suwet’en clans have rejected Church’s decision, which criminalizes Anuk ‘nu’at’en (Wet’suwet’en law), and have issued and enforced an eviction of CGL’s workers from the territory. The last CGL contractor was escorted out by Wet’suwet’en Chiefs on Saturday, January 4, 2020.

We watched communities across Canada and worldwide rise up with us in January 2019 when the RCMP violently raided our territories and criminalized us for upholding our responsibilities towards our land. Our strength to act today comes from the knowledge that our allies across Canada and around the world will again rise up with us, as they did for Oka, Gustafsen Lake, and Elsipogtog, shutting down rail lines, ports, and industrial infrastructure and pressuring elected government officials to abide by UNDRIP. The state needs to stop violently supporting those members of the 1% who are stealing our resources and condemning our children to a world rendered uninhabitable by climate change.

Light your sacred fires and come to our aid as the RCMP prepares again to enact colonial violence against Wet’suwet’en people.
